ABOUT THE GAC FUND
The Illinois Gender-Affirming Care Fund was founded to ensure that young people do not lose access to essential, life-saving medical care because of shifting policies and growing barriers to treatment. As gender-affirming care becomes increasingly difficult to access—and too often limited by financial privilege—our fund works to bridge that gap and keep care within reach for those who need it most.
Our fund provides financial support for gender-affirming medical care for individuals 18 and under who have lost access to treatment. By helping cover the cost of medically necessary care, we aim to ensure that transgender and gender-diverse youth can continue receiving the support they rely on for their health, safety, and well-being. We believe every young person deserves access to compassionate, affirming healthcare without financial barriers standing in the way.
The fund is available to individuals and families who live in Illinois, as well as those who need to travel to our state to access care. As access to gender-affirming healthcare becomes more restricted in many parts of the country, Illinois has become a critical place for families seeking safe and affirming medical support. Our goal is to reduce the financial burden that often comes with accessing that care, ensuring that treatment is not interrupted because of cost.
As our resources grow, we hope to expand the reach of the Illinois Gender-Affirming Care Fund beyond our state and support access to care for youth across the country. Through community support, partnerships, and advocacy, we are working toward a future where no young person is denied the medical care they need simply because of where they live or their family’s financial circumstances.
